ise!

it's official - my first exchange. i've signed up - there's no turning back now! i'm so excited and can't wait to knit something for my secret international pal

new habits

as i'm home sick today, i've decided to list out some new goals for myself for the fall. as the month's go by, we'll see how i do:

1 - post at least twice a week on my blog
2 - finish my eyelet scarf (see other posts)
3 - exercise at the gym at least 3 times a week (not a stretch, but getting there is)
4 - get the photos of my dad organized and into a scrapbook
5 - organize next year's family reunion (we're thinking of the outer banks)
6 - stress out less; put family & knitting above work
7 - go to fall fiber festivals!
8 - get a massage or pedicure once a month

really good weekend

this past weekend i travelled to nashville, tn to see my aunt, uncle & cousin. my cousin brought his wife, debra, and children, annabel (7) and phoebe (11). they are awesome kids - they're both into sewing so we had a sew/knit session. phoebe also knows how to knit. she wanted to learn how to make mittens so i taught her to knit on dp's. wow is she a fast learner. she watched me once and got the hang of it! before i knew it, she was cruising along and had the cuff completed. unfortunately, i had to leave before i could show her all the different sts for the mitten; she's going to email me for knitting instructions.

they both live in nyc - brooklyn to be exact. they are so hip. annabel showed me her gaming device (can't remember the name of it) and said she would soon have email too. they both know so much more than i did at that age...

because they're so into knitting, i've decided to make them hats and also send them some funky yarn. i'll have to comb tyl for some yarn at knit night tomorrow night (how unfortunate :D).

they both loved the yarn i was using to make these socks. it's something i picked up from a yarn swap - it's called crazy cotton and is wonderful to work with. the socks knit up really fast (even on 1's). i did most of this on the plane to nashville by way of chicago. i think i made them a tad big but i still like them.

sunday knitting & new alpaca!

sangeeta came over sunday to knit, drink coffee and chat. she brought me new yarn that she bought in northern virginia! i love it - it's chunky misty alpaca in a beautiful soft white. thank you!! i'm going to try and knit some of it up tonight - i'll probably make it into a new scrarf pour moi.

in between our eating :O), she worked on this adorable new baby sweater (it's so tiny!). she also helped me figure out the gauge for a vest. i'm so excited - i'm going to make the rib vest (well, it supposed to be fair isle too but i'm going to knit it with one color) out of vogue knitting, fall 2005.

on other notes, i spent much of the weekend trying to make some noticable progress on my eyelet lace scarf. will this thing ever end?! i love it but have been working on it for 6 months. i'm hoping it will be a nice christmas present for myself. at the rate i'm going, it'll take that long...

almost complete!

i'm almost finished with the baby cardi from knitting pure & simple. sangeeta helped sew up the hood saturday so i'm in the homestretch. only buttons (where you see the pins) and little crochet ties to go. this has been a good project for learning gauge. i picked out some inexpensive cotton and wow - this turned into a 1 year old sweater from an infant pattern! still looks cute though...

blowing rock

i love blowing rock, north carolina. it may be touristy and small, but it's just beautiful. each time i go there, i feel like i'm at home and always want to stay longer than our vacation allows. here's a pix from linville falls, nc. ben and i have been going there for 6 years. we used to go twice a year, but once we moved to richmond and found out that it's 7 1/2 hours from here! we don't go as often.

this trip to blowing rock held new excitment as it's the first time i've been there since i started knitting. before we left, i intended to look up yarn stores (as i was certain there was one in boone - it's sooooo artsy there); however, i didn't have the time to print out locations. i told ben that i was sure i would be able to find a store. friday, we walked around downtown and wouldn't you know it, the first place i found was a knitting store!! i have been to blowing rock countless times, but had never seen this store before. the owner was so nice and her yarn selection was beautiful. here's what i bought:

  • 3 skeins of filatura di crosa (127 print) 100% wool

  • 3 skeins of Brownsheep Handpaint Originals in Chestnut

  • 2 skeins of Classic Elite Miracle (50% alpaca, 50% tencel)in a beautiful beige. i *love* this yarn

  • 1 skein of Classic Elite Inca Alpaca in color 1132 - Absolutely gorgeous!

the first 3 skeins are for a scarf for ben for his birthday; i'm making the chunky rustic scarf in last minute knitted gifts. it's beautiful but remind me that i'll never cast on 200 stitches again for a scarf!

the other skeins are for various yet to be determined projects. maybe some wrist warmers for me?

the fiber festival is coming up in oct, so i need to use up some of these skeins so i can spend there!

flower power

saturday i went to lunch and knitted with sangeeta. she had a great idea of putting a flower on my to-be felted bag! here’s what i ended up with saturday night. i love it! i still need to felt and put some beads in the center of the flower. i actually found some beautiful purple beads sunday - i can’t wait till it’s felted.

on other fronts - my god it’s hot here! the heat index was 103 today and should be close to 110 tomorrow. and who says global warming is non-existent!

new blog!

yes, i'm coming back to blogger. alas. i kept deleting links in wordpress. and, i have more template control here. since blogger does not allow me to import content, it may take a while to get archives up. but, i will be posting new things on this blog rather than "http://teaguese.wordpress.com"

see you soon
